Florida BlaQ Out Pride Weekend builds on the sacred groundwork of Bishop S.F. Makalani-MaHee, who founded South Florida Black Gay Pride and created space for queer and trans liberation.

Bishop Makalani-MaHee was a pioneering Black, queer, and trans advocate who dedicated his life to creating safe, affirming spaces for our communities in a region that has too often been marked by exclusion and violence.

Florida BlaQ Out Pride Weekend honors Bishop Makalani-MaHee’s legacy by continuing his work: cultivating spaces of belonging, joy, and justice for Black LGBTQ+ people in the South.
